Well, this is Christmas, it's finally here... I finally finished my shopping at about 4:30 pm today, so I got some good insanely crowded mall time in, to properly worship the Corporate Gods of Capitalism.
All in all I think I did ok for my various presents... a lot of them seem to have come from the liquor store, but everyone likes booze, right? It leads me to believe that somebody over there at MasterCard is probably sitting there thinking that this Mark guy's fallen off the wagon again, after a fall free of those nasty $100 bar bills and general debauchery-related purchases, since in the last two weeks I've spent in the vicinity of $200 on booze at the LCBO.
Either that or my family and friends are all alcoholics... :p
I was reading Jonathan Schwartz's Blog today (CEO of Sun Microsystems, I know I'm a huge corporate whore/ubergeek) and it made me think about the load all us holiday shoppers put on our infrastructure... I mean, beyond the obvious malls being crowded, and shipping companies frantically trying to get everyones' packages to them for Xmas. For instance, what about those poor Dell (or Apple or whatever) tech support dudes over there in India, I bet their day tomorrow's gonna be hell, what with all the grannies/middle aged soccer moms/etc... who got new gadgetry trying to figure things out and the like... Or the poor telecom engineers who must have to stick around to make sure that all the activations of people's new cellphones they got for Christmas all work out as planned. Not everyone gets a nice holiday with their families tomorrow, one can only hope that those poor dejected souls are getting their time and a half, and will eventually be able to enjoy that income they're earning.
Anyways, I still have some gift wrapping to finish up and then it's sleepytime, so I'm off. Merry Christmas to you all, and a Happy New Year (if I don't make my way back here by then)!!
